  • The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday conducted raids at the houses of two Trinamool Congress leaders in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district in connection with the murder of a BJP worker in post-poll violence in 2021, officials said.

The raid was carried out early in the morning at the houses of TMC leader Debabrata Panda and block president Nandadulal Maiti at Kathi Block.

BJP worker Janmejay Dolui alias Chandu of Egra’s Uttar Padma village was attacked with bamboo poles, iron rods and sharp weapons on March 30, 2021, and his body was found in nearby Bhajachowly.

Following the Calcutta High Court directive, the CBI took over the investigation into the incidents of violence that broke out in the state after the declaration of the 2021 Assembly election results.

The CBI named 53 people in its December 2021 First Information Report (FIR) of the murder case and about 30 people who were summoned failed to appear before the Central agency.

Initially, the local police registered a case in this connection against 11 people.

Violence erupted in parts of West Bengal after the 2021 Assembly election results, in continuation with the clashes that broke out across the state during the time of election.
