• Kol tourist & driver killed, 4 injured as vehicle falls into river in Sikkim

  • Siliguri: One person of a five-member family from Kolkata died and four others were seriously injured in an accident in Sikkim’s Singtam district after the vehicle they were travelling in hurtled down the mountain slope and plunged into Rani river at Sangkhola.

    The family from Chowdhury para in north Kolkata was travelling on a holiday from Siliguri to Gangtok when the accident happened around 5am on Saturday.The driver of the Sikkim-registered commercial vehicle was also killed in the accident.

    The deceased has been identified as Rabindra Nath Paul (72). He was travelling with Tapas Paul (33), Krishna Paul (36), Mira Paul (60) and a four-year-old girl when the driver lost control and the vehicle fell down a gorge and into the river. The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the river. Paul and the driver’s bodies have been kept in the mortuary of the distr-ict hospital in Singtam.

    The injured were first taken to the nearby district hospital in Singtam, from where they were moved to the Central Referral Hospital in Gangtok.
