  • Kolkata: A 57-year-old CPM worker from Patuli, Abhik Chowdhury, who is battling cancer, was allegedly assaulted by Trinamool miscreants. In protest against the incident, CPM members surrounded the Patuli police station, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.

    Srijan Bhattacharya, CPM candidate from Jadavpur, submitted a memorandum before the cops.

    The incident happened on Friday during a CPM meeting in Patuli, held in support of Bhattacharya.For the rally, several microphones and lights were set up in the vicinity. CPM claimed that Trinamool goons, who run syndicates and oversee construction work in the area, disconnected the power supply to the street-corner meeting. Tension escalated in the area, with heated exchanges between CPM workers and the miscreants.

    Although power was restored, Chowdhury had allegedly complained again after the meeting when Trinamool men allegedly assaulted him.

    Trinamool denied the allegations.
