The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday stated that the maximum temperature in West Bengal is likely to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius until Sunday.
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in West Midnapore and Bankura districts, while thunderstorms with lightning and rain are predicted from Sunday, the IMD bulletin stated.
Yellow alert has been sounded in the districts of West Midnapore, Bankura, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur due to the heatwave conditions.
On Friday, the highest temperature in West Bengal was recorded at Balurghat (42.5 degrees), while the capital city of Kolkata registered 38.1 degree Celsius during the daytime, with the maximum humidity at 88 per cent. The sky remained partly cloudy.
In the northern parts of the state, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely to continue this week in the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Coochbehar and North Dinajpur, the IMD bulletin said.
