Dibrugarh university vice-chancellor Ranjit Tamuli sacked

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Ranjit Tamuli, who was under suspension since February 11, has been sacked from his post by governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi with immediate effect.
He was earlier suspended by the governor after a fact-finding committee indicted him of financial irregularities, corruption and misuse of power while serving as the V-C .
The governor had then handed over the charge of the V-C temporarily to Prof RNS Yadav of the department of life sciences-cum-dean of the faculty of biological sciences, Dibrugarh University. Following his superannuation on February 28, Lila Kanta Nath, a professor of department of pharmaceutical sciences of Dibrugarh University, was appointed the V-C (in-charge).
An order by Raj Bhavan on Monday stated, "The governor in his capacity as chancellor of Dibrugarh University (Section 8(1) of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965), being the appointing authority of V-C of Dibrugarh university (Section 10(1) of the Dibrugarh university Act, 1965) and in exercise of powers conferred upon him in terms of Section 10(1) of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 read with Section 18 of Assam General Clauses Act, 1915... remove Prof Ranjit Tamuli, from the office of the V-C, Dibrugarh university with immediate effect."
