  • Kolkata: The All-Bengal Principals’ Council has urged the education department to immediately open the admission portal for undergraduate studies.

The letter to the principal secretary of higher education department expresses concern over the delay in opening the portal in state-aided colleges while minority institutions and autonomous colleges have already opened their admission portals and are receiving applications from students.

The Plus-II results have already been declared by all major boards and students are eagerly waiting to apply for college admissions.

TOI had earlier reported that there are a number of leading city colleges where a huge number of seats were vacant last year.

The Principals’ Council also referred to academic year 2023-24 when admission had been delayed, leading to nearly 75% seats in several state-aided colleges remaining vacant in subjects like science and humanities.

The letter signed by All Bengal Principals’ Council’s president Purna Chandra Maity said there was no legal obstacle to open admission portal due to the model code of conduct (MCC) because private and minority colleges are conducting admission procedures now. Surendranath College principal Indranil Kar said, “How long will students wait when they have plenty of options? We are really concerned about filling up the seats.”
