State minister and TMC leader Shashi Panja held a news conference in the evening and said that woman was allegedly subjected to ”molestation” and verbal abuse by the two personnel while she was taking a morning stroll in Chandipur locality within the constituency.
”The incident took place on a day the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s was on a visit to the state where he spoke about the safety and security of women. The central force personnel, who are expected to ensure the safety and security of voters, are acting as predators and not as protectors,” said Panja.
The TMC leader wondered whether this incident reflects the mindset and attitude of the central forces towards the women of the state. “The police have registered an FIR based on a written complaint by the woman against the two jawans. We have already taken up the issue with the Election Commission,” she added.
The party also complained to Police observer on Central force molesting a woman in Uluberia. “We would like to bring to the notice of the Cummission a very unfortunate incident that look place in 178 Uluberiu South AC this morning involving the Central Force personnel deployed for election duly. It is alleged that an instance of molestation occurred when a womun was out for her morning walk. The police have already booked the accused jawan, and a formal complaint has been lodged at the Uluberia Police Station,” read the letter which was sent to the police observer by the election agent of TMC’ Uluberia candidate Sajda Ahmed.
“Reports of this incident are spreading rapidly across the district, instilling fear among the residents, particularly concerning the safety of women from the Central Force during the election period. We urge the Commission to thoroughly investigate this incident and take necessary actions to ensure the safety and confidence of the women in our constituency. It is imperative to address this issue promptly to maintain trust ands ensure a frce and fair election,” it added.
Speaking to mediapersons, the victim said, “I was out for morning walk, two central force jawans gave me indecent proposals. When I rejected such proposals, one of them touched me inappropriately and hugged me. He also forcefully kissed me and molested me. I immediately raised an alarm and locals nearby rushed to the spot. I am living in fear now. Strong punishment must be given to the jawans who moleated me.”
Reacting to the development, senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha said, “We have to first see whether this woman is affiliated to the TMC or being threatened by the TMC. This must be be investigated first. However, if the incident is true then strong action must be taken against the accused persons. But I feel that TMC is behind this and the case is a fabricated one. Am impartial investigation is required. This is nothing but a petty politics by the TMC to show central force in poor light so that they get scared.”
