  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday passed an interim stay on the investigation into the officer on special duty (OSD) at Raj Bhavan in connection with the alleged molestation of a former staffer by the governor.

Justice Amrita Sinha directed the police to place the report before the regular bench on June 10. The Raj Bhavan OSD had moved court to quash proceedings against him on charges of “wrongful restraint and abetment”, which he held were “quite improbable.” Advocate general Kishore Datta had opposed the court’s move to stall the proceedings against the trio, arguing that the accused would get time to influence witnesses.“The purpose of the petitioner is to shield the governor,” the AG said. After the HC passed the order, the AG requested a stay, which the court considered and rejected.

During the hearing, the counsel for the petitioner submitted that the names of the OSD and two others were not in the woman’s complaint. Their names found mention only on May 7, when she said that when she came out of the Peace Room, she was made to sit in the EPBAX room, where the three employees asked her not to disclose anything to authorities nor raise a hue and cry on the matter.
