  • Kolkata: The three persons arrested in Bangladesh for the murder of Anwarul Azim Anar are Celesty Rahman, Shimul Bhuiyan Aman alias Amanullah Syed, member of a banned Left wing group in Bangaldesh, and Tanvir Bhuiyan. Others present in the New Town apartment at the time of the murder were Siam, Faisal, Mostafiz and Jihad, the butcher. Siam, Faisal and Mostafiz are still on the run.

According to Indian and Bangladeshi cops, the murder was planned by Md Akhtaruzzaman alias Shaheen, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, who paid the hired killers five crore Bangladeshi taka, rented the New Town flat on April 30, and arranged for all to converge there to kill his one-time associate and friend Azim.He returned to Bangladesh three days before the murder, leaving the others to execute the plan that included dismembering Azim’s body in such a manner that the parts could not be traced. Shaheen fled to Nepal and is suspected to have travelled to Dubai and to some other country. Bangladesh and India are likely to seek Interpol’s help.

Cops in Kolkata said Jihad, the butcher, said he acted on Shaheen’s order. “He, along with four Bangladeshi nationals, smothered the MP, the butcher then chopped the body and they packed the parts in several plastic bags to take them away. They used various modes of transport to dispose of the parts in and around Kolkata,” a CID officer said. Police on Friday also released CCTV footage of two entering the New Town flat empty-handed but exiting with a blue trolley bag.
