• Flood shelters, public warning system ready in coastal areas

  • Kolkata: In vulnerable coastal areas, like Gosaba, Canning, Pathar Pratima and Sagar, officials are preparing for potential impact of the cyclone. Sagar BDO Kanhiya Kumar Rai emphasized the administration’s readiness to support locals.

    Announcing systems are in place to alert residents about evacuation to flood shelters. Kakdwip BDO Rik Goswami said nine major cyclone centres, schools and other facilities, are set up for residents of Mousuni Dwip and other parts of Kakdwip, where the intensity of the approaching cyclone is a significant concern.Ghoramara, Mousuni, Muriganfa, Sagar, Dhoblat, Boatkhali, and parts of Sagar subdivision that rely on earthen embankments, are under close watch. Namkhana, Mahendraganj and Kakdwip have also fortified their defences with sandbags.

    The full moon, which lasted until Thursday night, will influence tidal patterns and potentially exacerbate the cyclone’s impact.
