• HC nixes TMC plea against NIA action

  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has disposed of a writ petition by Trinamool Congress against the alleged harassment of party cadre by NIA during the elections under the “garb” of investigating two old cases — the Ram Navami violence case and the Bhupatinagar blast case.

    Counsel for Trinamool, Pratik Dhar, had submitted on the first day of the hearing that 16 people had been arrested by the NIA during polls and urged the court to give the party a “level playing field”.Dhar also urged the court to order the EC to transfer the SP NIA as the EC had transferred the DGP thrice.

    Justice Biswajit Basu had asked the TMC counsel whether the party had submitted material to the EC while seeking the transfer of the SP. Justice

    EC counsel Sukumar Pattjoshi submitted that the election panel had considered TMC’s letter and had disposed of the matter.
