• High tide adds to S 24 Pgns flooding fears

  • Kolkata: Even four days after full moon, high tide persists, raising river water levels and leading to fears of flooding in Sagar, Ghoramara, Patharpratima, Kakdwip, Namkhana, Gosaba, and Kultoli.

    South 24 Paraganas DM Sumit Gupta held a meeting with state departments and district officials. Somnath Dutta from the IMD was also present. Pointing out the administration was geared up to tackle the cyclone, Gupta said NDRF would be stationed in Sagar, Kakdwip and Gosaba, ready for evacuation, and DMG teams will be on standby in Sagar and Kakdwip.Vessels have been told not to venture into rivers, especially Muriganga, while visitors have been advised against going near the sea or river.

    Public health engineering officials will coordinate among district branches, including Dongaria, rescue and health teams will be on standby.
