Kolkata: A 15-year-old boy—resident of Bagmari area and a student of class 9 — was detained for the death of a 14-year-old girl, who lived in an area under Maniktala police station on Wednesday.
The girl was found in a critical condition at the boy’s house on Saturday and later died at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.
Police said the girl’s autopsy report, received on Monday, suggested that she died due to poisoning.Thus, the cops have added murder charge to the case.
The girl’s family claimed that she was in a relationship with the boy.
“The boy had informed her (the deceased) mother over the telephone about her ill health around 4.35 pm on Saturday. When we rushed to the boy’s house, we saw froth coming out of her mouth,” said a relative. Following her death, the family lodged a murder complaint against the boy at Maniktala police station.
Investigators are now focusing on determining the cause of the poisoning and her viscera has been preserved. “The two developed a strained relationship after the boy started speaking to other girls on social media,” alleged the girl’s family.
