In the Kolkata Police jurisdiction, 246 companies of central forces and 11,000 police personnel will be deployed. Whereas, 116 companies of central forces will be deployed in the Basirhat constituency, which hit the headlines following the Sandeshkhali violence early this year.
In Kolkata North constituency, 66 polling stations have been earmarked as sensitive. The corresponding number for Kolkata South is 117 and it is 323 for Jadavpur. The Kolkata North constituency has 1,869 polling stations, and Kolkata South has 2,078 polling stations.
Jadavpur, which has 2,120 polling stations, will get 36.7 companies of central forces. The portion (144 polling stations) of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha Constituency that falls under the Kolkata Police jurisdiction will receive 73 companies of central forces.
The Election Commission has also decided to deploy 788 special Quick Response Teams (QRTs) on June 1.
Each special QRT will have eight central force jawans and an inspector-ranked police personnel. As per sources in the Kolkata Police headquarters, the EC will deploy 36 special QRTs in Kolkata. QRT personnel will also keep a watch on the city from high-rise buildings.
Meanwhile, the EC recently transferred three police officers in West Bengal. It shifted Koteshwar Rao, Superintendent of Police, Sunderban police district; Minakhan SDPO Aminul Islam Khan; and Rahara police station IC Debashis Sarkar to non-election-related posts.
