• Kid among 6 hurt in 5 accidents

  • Kolkata: Six persons, including a child, were injured in five accidents that took place in different parts of the city on Sunday.

    Around 10.40am, a mini truck lost control and keeled over on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass near Salt Lake Stadium. The driver Jahangir Kazi (27) and a 10-year-old child Jahid Sheikh, both residents of Ultadanga, were admitted to NRS Medical College and Hospital.The child was travelling in the truck when the accident happened.

    Around 2.20pm, a 55-year-old woman, Arati Ghosh, a resident of Kalighat, sustained injury on her right leg after being hit by a bike at the crossing of Harish Mukherjee Road and Kalighat Road.

    The biker sped away after the accident. The woman was rushed to SSKM Hospital. She was walking along the road at the time of the accident.

    Cops are trying to trace the biker with the help of CCTV footage.

    Another septuagenarian pedestrian, Kanika Poddar, a resident of Khanpur Road at Netaji Nagar, was injured after being hit by a private car near her house around 8.40am. The woman who sustained facial injuries was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital. Cops have impounded the car and held its driver.

    A 20-year-old helmetless biker lost control and rammed into a railing by the side of K P Road at Maidan in the wee hours of Sunday.

    The biker, Deep Das, a resident of Barisha, received multiple injuries in the accident, which occurred around 1.50am. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital.

    Around 1am, a taxi hit an unidentified man who was riding a bicycle on Raja SC Mullick Road near Jadavpur. The man, aged around 45 years, was severely injured and was admitted to KPC Hospital. Cops took charge of the taxi along with its driver.
