  • Siliguri: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation announced normalcy in drinking water supply on Sunday evening, finally bringing much-awaited relief to residents.

“The prolonged drinking water supply crisis has been resolved. Residents of Siliguri will now have access to purified drinking water sourced from the Teesta,” said mayor Gautam Deb on Sunday.

Deb assured that necessary tests had been conducted on the water to ascertain its safety.

Public Health Engineering officials also confirmed that the water met all quality standards.

Siliguri residents had been grappling with acute drinking water shortage with the civic body announcing that the water, sourced from Mahananda, was unfit for drinking.

Deb on Wednesday had announced that biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) found in the water was 2.9 PPA instead of the normal 1-2 PPA. SMC had engaged 75 tankers and distributed three lakh water pouches to handle the situation.
