  • NEW DELHI: The results of the Maldaha Uttar Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal will be announced today. The constituency participated in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 7, 2024, with a voter turnout of 76.03 per cent. As one of the 42 parliamentary seats of West Bengal, Maldaha Uttar is categorized under the General category and covers a portion of the Maldaha district.The literacy rate within this constituency stands at 52.31 per cent, and it comprises seven legislative assembly segments.

    The major candidates this year are Khagen Murmu from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prasun Banerjee from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), and Mostaque Alam from the Indian National Congress (INC).

    In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the constituency saw a voter turnout of 80.28 per cent. Khagen Murmu from the BJP won with 5,09,524 votes, followed by Mausam Noor from AITC, who received 4,25,236 votes.

    In the 2014 elections, Mausam Noor from AITC won the seat with 3,88,609 votes, followed by Khagen Murmu from CPI, who garnered 3,22,904 votes.

    Based on the 2011 Census, in the Maldaha Uttar parliamentary constituency, approximately 23.8 per cent of the electorate are Scheduled Caste (SC) voters, while around 10.3 per cent are Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters. Muslim voters constitute about 45 per cent of the electorate. The constituency is primarily rural, with rural voters accounting for about 93.7 per cent, while urban voters make up about 6.3 per cent. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, the total number of voters was 1,683,797, and 1,713 polling booths were available.
