  • Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) held an orientation training programme on vector-control management with house-to-house survey teams on Wednesday. This move came before field surveyors start door-to-door visits in New Town to collect household data and disseminate information on dengue management.

Officials said about 200 field surveyors and supervisors attended the orientation training programme. This was organised in the presence of entomologists from the state urban development agency. “The teams will soon start visiting households every week to collect data on whether anybody had fever, dengue or malaria-like symptoms. They will also distribute leaflets on vector control,” said an official.

Officials said that since Jan, not a single dengue case has been reported from New Town. An awareness meeting with owners of construction sites and RWA representatives will be held this Saturday. “The meeting aims to generate awareness regarding the importance of regular surveys and to educate the people on how to curb mosquito breeding,” said an official.

According to reports, the number of dengue cases in New Town has been rising for the past two years. This has prompted author-ities to strengthen their operational manpower to combat dengue. Teams of health workers have been formed, canal cleaning and larvicide spraying has also been intensified.
