• 3 held for 9.5-lakh loan fraud

  • Kolkata: The detective department on Thursday raided a loan office in the Hare Street area and arrested three persons for allegedly duping an investor of Rs 9.5 lakh. The accused had approached the complainant as representatives of a subsidiary organization of IRDA and persuaded him to invest in different schemes with assurance of good monthly return.

    “The accused forged the signatures of the complainant in different documents and did insurance policies of Rs 6,50,000 (approx) of different companies against his will.The accused also convinved the complainant to seek hefty loans and took money in cash as commission. In the process, the complainant lost Rs 9.5 lakh,” said additional CP (I) Murlidhar Sharma.

    Those arrested have been identified as Pawan Bhadani (42) of Panchanantala Road in Howrah, Rajat Das (44) of Dhakuria and Susanta Karmakar (37) of Kasba. They used to operate from the office of an insurance firm housed in the Turner Morrison Building at Lyons Range. Several documents, three phones and a hard disk have been seized. The trio was produced in court and taken in police remand.
