• West Bengal weather forecast: No relief from humidity for now, says MeT

  • KOLKATA: The city continued to reel under stifling humidity which reached a maximum of 85% on a sultry Saturday. While the maximum temperature dropped marginally to 35.4°C, a drop of two degrees from Friday, the conditions remained extremely uncomfortable due to moisture incursion at the ground level. With chances of rain being low over the next three-four days, barring local thunderstorms in some parts of south Bengal, Kolkata may have to endure the humidity for at least a week more, said the Regional Meteorological Centre, Alipore.

"Monsoon currents are unlikely to reach south Bengal in the next five days. Meanwhile, moisture at the ground level will keep the humidity high and the weather sweaty. We expect a marginal rise in maximum temperature on Sunday which could add to the discomfort. Some districts in western part of the city may experience heatwave conditions since the southwesterly wind from the sea is not reaching those areas, pushing the mercury up," said HR Biswas, scientist in charge of weather forecast at RMC.

There is a silver lining, though. The city may receive showers around June 14-15 though the Met office is still not sure if that would be triggered by the monsoon.
