• Mutation at Nayapatti, Mahisbathan begins

  • Kolkata: The mutation process for plots in BMC wards 27 and 28, covering Nayapatti and Mahisbathan in Sector V, has finally started.

    Once the mutation for the plot or building is done, BMC will send out its property tax bill, based on the Rajarhat Gopalpur tax structure. “The mutation process has started and BMC has received applications for plots in Mahisbathan and Nayapatti.After the mutation, the officials will calculate the tax structure, based on the existing one in BMC wards 1 to 26, which cover Rajarhat Gopalpur,” said a BMC official.

    So far, property owners in wards 27 and 28, and wards 35 and 36, paid a yearly land revenue of Rs 600 to Rs 800.

    Officials said West Bengal Valuation Board was assessing BMC property tax structure to come up with a uniform structure for all its 41 wards. The BMC now receives property tax of about Rs 25 crore to Rs 28 crore annually from Salt Lake and Rs 10 crore to Rs 12 crore annually from Rajarhat-Gopalpur area. Once all the 41 wards are brought under a uniform structure, the civic body is likely to receive an annual property tax of about Rs 150 crore.
