  • Kolkata: Five months after a Khelat Ghosh Lane (under Jorabagan police station) resident fell prey to sextortion over Skype call and had transferred Rs 10 lakh to the scamsters, police on Thursday finally recovered the swindled money.

Probe is, however, underway to identify and nab the accused. Earlier, on Jan 2 the complainant had received a Skype video call from an apparently scantily-clad woman. The scamsters took a screenshot of the complainant watching the video and started blackmailing him posing as cops.

The complainant had transferred Rs 10 lakh to an account in a nationalized bank. Though the swindled money was transferred to another private bank account, cops managed to get the accounts frozen, said additional CP (I) Murlidhar Sharma. Cops have also cautioned citizens. — Dwaipayan Ghosh
