  • Kolkata: Bengal cricket is set to get Wriddhiman Saha back as the wicketkeeper-batter will represent Rashmi Medinipur Wizards in the upcoming Bengal Pro T20 League beginning on Tuesday. After 15 years of service, the Siliguri boy formally parted ways with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on July 2, 2022 after an official questioned his commitment towards Bengal cricket. Saha had operated as player-cum-mentor of the Tripura senior side for two years.

    But late last month, he decided to don the Bengal jersey after a talk with former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.Saha, who was not on the initial draft list for Bengal Pro T20 league, was drafted in as a replacement for marquee player Abhimanyu Easwaran. The opener was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Former Bengal player Sudip Chatterjee, who is also making a comeback after playing for Tripura for two seasons, will lead the Wizards.

    Bengal in tough group in Ranji:

    Bengal have been placed in Elite Group ‘C’ along with Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali (T20) meet, the Laxmi Ratan Shukla-coached side will lock horns with Punjab, Hyderabad, Rajasthan, MP, Bihar, Mizoram, Meghalaya in Group A. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy (50-over) tournament, Bengal will play Kerala, Tripura, MP, Delhi, Baroda and Bihar in Group E.The Ranji Trophy will begin on Oct 11 followed by Mushtaq Ali from Nov 23 and Vijay Hazare from Dec 21.
