The incident took place Friday night when the Bengali actor was shooting outside a restaurant in the New Town area on the outskirts of Kolkata.
According to reports, the Chandipur MLA had parked his car in front of the restaurant, inconveniencing other customers. The restaurant owner, Anisul Alam, asked Chakraborty’s security personnel to remove the car. This led to a verbal altercation and the TMC MLA came to the spot and slapped Alam.
Later, Chakraborty went to the Techno City police station to lodge a complaint against the restaurant officials.
Speaking to the media, Chakraborty said the restaurant owner used “bad words” against him and Banerjee. “The moment he used bad words against Abhishek Banerjee, I lost my cool. I slapped him several times. I have lodged a complaint with the police who will now look into the matter,” he added.
Alam denied abusing Banerjee and told the media that Chakraborty punched and kicked him. “He came here to shoot without even taking any commercial deal. Despite that, we allowed him to shoot in the restaurant. There was a verbal altercation between the restaurant workers and his security personnel regarding parking. I had resolved that and was on my way to the restaurant when Soham came and punched me in the face. I pleaded with folded hands asking him not to beat me and listen to what happened. Instead, he said, ‘I will show you my power’ and kicked me,” Alam alleged.
“Chakraborty is making baseless allegations that I used bad words against Abhishek Banerjee to defend his act. This is completely untrue as I never used any bad words against Banerjee. I only said that it does not matter whether Chakraborty was a friend of Abhishek Banerjee or Narendra Modi as he had to clear the parking space for my guests…,” he added.
Chakraborty threatened to close his establishment down, Alam further alleged. “I am scared to lodge a police complaint against him, fearing future actions,” he said.
“We are yet to receive a formal complaint from the complainant [Alam]. At present, we are looking into the matter,” said a senior police officer of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
