  • Kolkata: The Port division police has arrested three persons for carrying out an early-morning robbery on Saturday.

    The accused had stopped a garments trader from Bihar on Akra Road in Metiabruz while he was on his way to buy clothes. The victim, who was in a taxi along with four others, was put under threat even as his aides were asked to flee the spot. The trader was robbed of Rs 2.9 lakh, the incident being reported around 4.40 am.Though cops denied, locals claimed firearms were used to threaten the victim.

    Cops combined source information with CCTV footage driven evidence to make the breakthrough. A significant portion of the looted amount has been recovered, said DC (port) Harikrishna Pai.

    According to police, CCTV footage was collected and a special team was set up to nab the accused. Sharing the footage with sources, cops fixed up the identity of the accused. A case under IPC 394 (voluntarily causing hurt during the act of robbery) was registered.

    Farhanuzzaman Ansari alias Farhan Zaman Ansari (23) was the first to be arrested on Saturday itself. Pursuant to his statement, a portion of robbed booty amounting Rs 1,02,500 were recovered.

    Md Gulam Waris alias Faizan Ahmed (19 ) and Istiqar Ahmed alias Sahil alias Ali Munshi (19) were arrested on Sunday. Attempts are on to arrest the another culprit, said DC Pai. All the arrested persons are being forwarded to Alipore court with prayer for police remand.
