  • KOLKATA: A man, identified as Sanatan Ghosh and claimed to be a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker, was fatally shot at Hariharpara in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, according to the police on Monday.

The victim’s mother said that her son’s death was connected to a dispute over land ownership with some persons in their locality.

The police are currently investigating the incident to determine whether the killing was motivated by political reasons or personal animosity related to land ownership, an officer said.

On Sunday night, Ghosh, who was in his 30s, was riding a motorbike with two other individuals when a car, apparently waiting for him, rammed into the two-wheeler.

He was shot from close range by the car-borne assailants after he fell from the motorbike.

When Ghosh was taken to a hospital, doctors declared him brought dead, the officer said.

The police are trying to track down the assailants, who fled the scene after the shooting.
