  • Kolkata: The state CID has received a primary forensic report that has confirmed that the body parts recovered from the septic tank of a Rajarhat complex last month and the bones recovered near Bagjola Canal in Bhangar on Sunday morning are of male human. IG CID Akhilesh Chaturvedi told TOI on Monday that they will now approach court to carry out DNA profiling to ascertain whether the flesh and bones belong to Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar who was reportedly murdered in Kolkata on May 13.

CID sources said once court permission comes through, the agency will again seek court permission to ask a family member of the MP to come to Kolkata.

“This will require certain diplomatic permissions. We are expecting Anar’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin to come to India for the last round of DNA matching. Hence, the entire scientific matching might take some more time,” said an officer.

The CID said it will next concentrate on recovering the instruments or weapons used to commit the murder. “It was Siam Hossain who procured the items from New Market and we might take him there soon. We are searching for an electrical chopper that was used to dispose of the body,” an investigator said.

The Dhaka police have detained a political leader from Jenediah — which was represented by Anar — in connection with this murder. Police in Bangladesh said the political leader had allegedly been sent a photograph of the MP’s body from Kolkata hours after the murder.

Sources claimed Anar and mastermind Aktaruzzaman Shaheen became friends in their youth and later, both got into politics. Their mentor was a gold trader in Jhenaidah town, who passed away in 2013. After his death, the friends emerged as major controllers of politics around the Jhenaidah border, eventually having a fallout.

In his testimony at a Dhaka court, Shimul Bhuniya, a key accused, alleged that Shaheen and Anar used to illicitly transfer funds out of the country through hawala channels and were implicated in gold smuggling. Following a dispute, Shaheen approached Amanullah and instructed him to assassinate Anar.

However, both Bangladesh police and CID asserted that there was no substantiation linking the MP with recent illegal activities. “The true motive can only be ascertained after we apprehend Shaheen. We are currently providing all assistance to Bangladesh Police,” he said.
