  • Almost a month after Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar was reported to be missing from a flat in Kolkata, West Bengal CID on Sunday recovered bone parts near a canal in Kashipur in South 24 Parganas that are believed to be of the leader’s, officials said.

Anar was last seen at a rented flat in Kolkata’s New Town area on May 13. The flat was reportedly owned by the key suspect in the case, Mohd Akhtaruzzaman, who is a US citizen. Police believe that he fled to the US via Nepal.

“The bone parts appear to be of a human being as suggested by forensic experts who were present when these were recovered,” a CID officer said. A suo moto case has been lodged at the Bijoyganj Bazar Police Station, he said. The bone parts will soon be sent for forensic examination. “A search is underway to trace the other body parts of the Bangladesh politician,” the officer said. The daughter of the Bangladesh MP is likely to arrive in Kolkata next week to take part in a DNA test in connection with the recovery of the bones, the officer added.

The 56-year-old MP and Akhtaruzzaman were believed to be business partners in gold and it is suspected that they fell out over money involved in the business, they added.
