• Sandeshkhali complainant blames 'treason' for poll debacle

  • KOLKATA: BJP's Basirhat candidate Rekha Patra, who had lodged an FIR alleging sexual abuse in Sandeshkhali, on Monday claimed her defeat in the Lok Sabha polls was due to "treason." This came days after former Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and Bishnupur MP Saumitra Khan alleging "backstabbing" in the party.

Patra, who lost by nearly 3.3 lakh votes, managed to secure a lead only in the Sandeshkhali assembly segment."I was defeated following a meticulous plan by Trinamool Congress and a section of our party workers were involved in it. They were conspiring with TMC and I was stabbed in the back," she said.

She also raised concerns about areas like Minakhan, Haroa and Sandeshkhali, where BJP workers were allegedly being attacked.

Patra has said that those who were responsible for BJP's dismal result in Bengal would be "exposed soon". "Those who thought that they would get away with backstabbing me will get a befitting reply. They insulted the party that had given them recognition. It was an insult to the PM and leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari," she said.

Patra was handpicked by BJP to be its candidate.
