  • Days after Tollywood actor and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Soham Chakraborty allegedly slapped a restaurant owner in Kolkata, the businessman moved Calcutta High Court on Wednesday to “seek justice” and claimed that the legislator had been threatening him since the incident.

A single bench headed by Justice Amrita Sinha admitted Alam’s petition. The next hearing in the case is scheduled on Friday. In his petition, Alam alleged that the police are yet to take any action against the MLA in the case, despite a written complaint being lodged with them.

He also accused the actor-turned-politician of threatening him and his associates since the June 7 incident. “I have moved the high court seeking justice,” said Alam while talking to reporters on Wednesday.

Calls made by The Indian Express to Chakraborty went unanswered.

Last Friday, Chakraborty had allegedly slapped Alam after accusing him of using “bad words” against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The incident occurred while the Chandipur MLA had been shooting outside the restaurant in Kolkata’s New Town area. According to police, Chakraborty had parked his car outside the establishment which was reportedly causing inconvenience to other customers. As Alam asked Chakraborty’s security personnel to remove the car, an altercation followed. The MLA reached the spot and then allegedly slapped Alam.

Alam had called Chakraborty’s allegations baseless and filed a complaint at the Techno City Police Station in Kolkata. Chakraborty had later apologised for his behaviour and said he was “regretting my actions”.
