  • Kolkata: Several city schools affiliated to the state board have decided to tweak class timings following the govt order while some have made alternative arrangements for heat relief.

Considering the current weather, Childrens’ Welfare Association High School, Behala, allowed students to attend school wearing regular clothes instead of the school uniform. Scottish Church Collegiate School will shift day classes to morning from Friday while on Thursday, more schools, including Entally Academy and Lee Memorial Girls’ High School, shifted classes to morning hours.

Mitra Institution Main, Sealdah, has brought forward class timings. Headmaster Sayantan Das said, “It was not easy to change timings as there is a primary school in the same building. We made an adjustment with the primary school for this arrangement, which will run till Saturday.”

An education department official said, “It would be difficult for a few schools to operate in the same building, so this order allows authorities to decide according to their infrastructure without hampering classes.”

However, most schools are still conducting classes according to normal schedule since they don’t have another option. Taki House School headmistress Swagata Basak said, “We are not changing class hours. Since we are holding exams for Rabindra Mukta Vidyalay, one class is being given a holiday by rotation.” Some schools, including Barisha Janakalyan Vidyapith For Girls’ School, are making classes use the top floor by rotation to provide relief from the heat.
