  • Kolkata: Education minister Bratya Basu said the NEET fiasco reflects the Centre’s failure and irresponsibility towards the future of thousands of students. He feels that such a failure should prompt the Centre to revert to the old system of medical entrance test where the exam was conducted by the state.

“NEET is a prestigious exam across the country but the fiasco and irregularities in it reflect the failure of the Centre. They are playing with the lives of thousands of students,” Basu said. According to him, as long as the state joint entrance board conducted it, there were no such irregularities. “The Centre should allow the state to conduct the medical entrance test like before,” he added.

He claimed that there has been a lot of talk about the cash-for-job scam in Bengal. “There has been a probe into it and many have been arrested also. But will there be a probe into NEET fiasco? Will ED and CBI be given charge to probe irregularities in NEET? Will we get an answer for the irresponsibility and corruption in an all-India examination under the Centre’s control?” he asked.
