Kolkata: Around 70 Bowbazar residents were evacuated on Sunday as a safety measure ahead of sealing the cross-passage at Madan Dutta Lane. This is in addition to the 77 shifted to three hotels on Saturday to block the second of the eight cross-passages initially planned in the Esplanade-Sealdah section of East-West Metro. The 2.5km stretch is still incomplete because it passes through the subsidence-prone central Kolkata area.In 2022, water seepage following a cave-in caused displacement of around 140 people.
