Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee underwent a minor surgical procedure at Apollo Multispecialty Hospital on Sunday. Banerjee, 37, was admitted to the hospital in the morning and was discharged a little after 3pm.
According to hospital sources, he is doing well after the procedure and is hemodynamically stable.
After the surgery, Banerjee was seen walking towards his car without any support and greeting well-wishers.He also spoke briefly with state fire minister Sujit Bose, who was present at the hospital.
On June 12, the Trinamool general secretary announced on his X handle that he would be taking a break from party activities due to pressing medical reasons. He posted, “In light of some pressing medical reasons, I will be taking a short hiatus from the organisation. This time off will be an opportunity for me to humbly explore and understand the needs of our people and community. I trust that GoWB will act swiftly and leave no stone unturned to ensure justice for those in need.”
In Oct 2016, Banerjee survived a major road accident on Durgapur Expressway off Singur when the vehicle in which he was travelling collided with a milk van. He lost consciousness in the impact and suffered massive injury in his left eye. In Oct 2022, he underwent a surgery at Johns Hopkins in the US.
