• Men on bike open fire at businessman’s car: Police

  • Two unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at the car of a businessman in north Kolkata’s Belgharia area on Saturday afternoon, police said. Police said the attackers were on a motorcycle and had covered their faces.

    The businessman Ajay Mondal is a resident of Barrackpur and is an automobile dealer, police said. At the time of the incident, Mondal and his driver were in the car, they added. No one was injured in the attack

    Barrackpur Police Commissioner Alok Rajoria said, “Two people came on a bike and shot directly at Ajay Mondal’s car. The total number of rounds fired is not known at this time. However, marks of five rounds of bullets were found on the businessman’s car. I have come to know that the attackers were demanding money from the businessman for several days. However, no complaint has been filed with the police yet. We have started an investigation.”

    In a separate incident in central Kolkata, a man was seriously injured after being allegedly shot at the Mirza Galib Street on Saturday midnight, police said. The youth, identified as Ekhlas Beg (29), was a resident of Mirza Ghalib Street, they added. Sources said the attacker was identified as Sona and he fled the spot after opening fire.
