Kolkata: Probing into the murder of a 37-year-old TV and mobile mechanic who was allegedly lynched inside Udayan Hostel on Nirmal Chandra Dey Street on Friday by its boarders, police have summoned the hostel superintendent for a background check of the 14 arrested youths and find out if they had any past record of violence on the hostel premises.
The hostel superintendent was not on the premises though when the incident had happened after the boarders accused the man of stealing the mobile phone of the night guard from the premises.Police said the youths, who are in police custody till July 4, were interrogated and cross-examined separately and together throughout the day as cops said there were differences in the versions of the boarders.
At Salt Lake Polenite, the three arrested for reportedly lynching their neighbour on Saturday, have told cops they had no intention to kill Prasen Mandal. They had slapped him when he accidentally fell and died. They had taken Mandal to hospital where he died.
