  • Kolkata: The 27-year-old youth who had shot her girlfriend inside a Lake Gardens guest house before shooting himself had left behind a six-page suicide note where he vividly wrote about his plan to end his girlfriend’s life as well as his own since he was suspiscious that she wished to walk out of the relationship as she was seeing someone else.

The girl, however, survived as the bullet that hit her abdomen missed vital organs. She is currently undergoing treatment at EEDF Hospital.

“The man wrote that he had informed Budge Budge police station about his plan and that he had got a Munger-made 9mm revolver from Gangadhar. The letter is written in Roman script and we are trying to find out if he meant he had found the gun from beside river Ganga or from a man named Gangadhar,” said a Kolkata police officer.

Rakesh Kumar (27) and Nikku Dubey (23) had checked in at the Lake Gardens guest house three hours before the shooting. The condition of Dubey was stable on Thursday though the surgery to remove the bullet from her body was delayed.

“The surgery couldn’t be conducted on Thursday because of certain health parameters. She is under observation and we are conducting more tests on her before we can prepare her for surgery. She can speak though and has been interacting with doctors, cops and relatives,” said an official at the Jodhpur Park hospital.

Family members of the youth said he was a civic volunteer in Budge Budge and undergoing training as a civil defence personnel. “He has no criminal background. We are checking how he got hold of the gun,” said a Kolkata Police officer.

The manager of New Metro Guest House, where the incident took place, said cops have asked them to not admit guests for the next few days and keep the rooms as they are as cops might need to make multiple visits . “We are cancelling bookings now,” an employee said.
