Kolkata: A Paikpara resident has filed an FIR against a promoter who allegedly punched her on the face after a dispute over alleged theft at a construction site.
The incident has been reported from Simlaipara Lane in Paikpara, close on the heels of similar complaints from Sinthee and Baranagar.
The accused, incidentally, is a kin of a former Trinamool councillor.Police said the FIR pertains to intentional assault, threats, intimidation, and defamation.
The woman claimed that the accused had been illegally promoting a temple property near her house. She alleged that she had been harassed several times for protesting against this.
“Around 2.30 am on Friday, a group of locals assembled outside their house suspecting that there was a thief in the area. The promoter too arrived. The woman claimed that there was an argument between her husband and the accused and her husband was harassed. When she protested, she was assaulted,” claimed a neighbour.
“We are getting her statement recorded. The promoting is happening with all legal permissions and it is not a debottar property. The woman is also facing an eviction suit,” claimed an officer.
