  • Kolkata Police on Monday said they have arrested four persons, suspected to be Bangladesh nationals, from the Anandapur area in south-east part of the city who allegedly entered India illegally.

According to police, the four were arrested on Sunday after they were found loitering in front of a shop in a suspicious manner.

Soon after receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and detained the four. They had a four-wheeler with them. Subsequently, they were interrogated and they disclosed their identity as Mijan Sheikh (38) of Rajbari, Bangladesh; Rubel Sheikh (27), Sobuj Kundu of Nadia, West Bengal, and Rahul Sheikh (27) from Bangladesh,” said a police officer.

“On further asked they could not provide any valid documents of their identity and confessed that they were from Bangladesh and had entered India illegally a few days back,” said the official.

All four have been booked under section 14A(b) of the Foreigners’ Act.
