  • Kolkata: Two children, aged between 11 and 13 years, were traced within 24 hours after they left their homes on Wednesday.

In the first case, the student of a top English medium school in central Kolkata reportedly left his home in Amherst Street area in the morning when his mother scolded him for not putting adequate effort in preparing for exams.

Being upset, the child left home without informing anyone in the family. The family members searched for him and eventually lodged a missing diary at Amherst Street police station. Later, around 10 pm, he was finally traced in his locality. “The student said he was angry and upset after his mother scolded him. So, he left home. He initially decided to go far away but then changed his mind and was roaming in his locality,” said a senior official at Lalbazar.

Another child — a class V student and resident of Jheel area in the Jadavpur-Garfa belt — had not returned home from tuition classes on Wednesday evening. The cops learnt about the incident from social media as locals and the child’s school teachers searched for him.

“The child was finally traced by the family. They even wrote about his return on a social media post. They had not formally lodged any missing complaint,” said a senior police officer. The child had claimed that he was bored with studies and wanted to go for a walk after tuition classes. But, he had forgotten the way back to his home, police said.
