  • Kolkata: Shocked neighbours in the Behala neighbourhood are wondering how a 54-year-old woman who hardly ever took medicine for high pressure suffered a heart attack and passed away all of a sudden. They are even more surprised at how the 14-year-old girl’s 17-year-old “boyfriend” took centre-stage on the shradh day to receive guests and even take care of the meals served to them.

“Many of us were witness to how upset the girl’s mother was when that boy had visited the house in their presence in the first couple of days in June.It was surprising how he was managing affairs that day,” said Arijit Dey.

Another neighbour, Swapan Dey, said, on June 6 morning the news spread that the woman had passed away. “We could see the victim lying on the bed, her body covered with a sheet up to her neck. The girl’s father – a grocer here for the past three decades – said his wife usually wakes up at 5 am. But when she did not do so even till 6 am he realized that she had passed away, he claimed,” said Swapan.

Neighbours claimed that on July 26 the girl allegedly left home with Rs 7,500 stolen from her father’s purse. She returned home late, around 11 pm. “The same morning her father was at his grocery store when he began grumbling about how his daughter had stolen money. A few of us were there when he suddenly flared up and declared that his wife was killed by the two teenagers,” said Swapan.

“We all met near the local pond in the evening and decided to pursue this case further. That same night we called the girl’s father who finally opened up about how his wife was murdered by his daughter and her boyfriend. We asked him to call up the boyfriend,” said Arijit.

On Sunday evening, the 17-year-old boy turned up. “The girl’s father informed us. That evening we met near the water body and accosted the teenagers. One of us serves in the police. He led the questioning and the two broke down. We called the cops and handed them over to police,” said Swapan.
