  • Kolkata: Jadavpur University is mulling an option to install CCTV cameras in the hostel corridors as part of anti-ragging measures and for security after a PG student was mentally tortured on allegations of stealing a laptop at the Main Hostel. JU installed 29 CCTV cameras last year at 10 strategic entry and exit points, including the gates of the main campus and the hostels after the death of the first-year student.

Interim VC Bhaskar Gupta said, “We are also identifying other spots where CCTV cameras can be installed. A detailed project report on this is underway. We are assuring students of all possible safety and security measures.”

The university has also given Sridip Chatterjee, a professor, the charge of officer on special duty (OSD) so that strict vigilance is maintained both on the campus and inside the hostels at night. tnn
