  • Kolkata: BJP’s Kurseong MLA Bishnu Prasad Sharma, who had earlier demanded separate statehood for north Bengal, walked out of the assembly on Monday after he was denied a chance by his party to speak on the undivided Bengal resolution. “Delhi BJP netas came to north Bengal and promised a separate state. But when it came to speaking inside the House, BJP maintained a double standard and did not allow me to speak. They were afraid that I would expose them,” he said.

Sharma, earlier in the day, had requested BJP chief whip Shankar Ghosh to allow him to speak on Monday. “But he didn’t give me any time. Instead, he gave chance to a MLA who was not present in the House during the entire session,” Sharma said.

“There was a resolution on undivided Bengal. BJP netas have also supported it. If both parties have agreed to it, why did they need to move the resolution,” Sharma asked while claiming that he was the only one who had not deviated from the statehood demand.

“The stretch from Cooch Behar to Darjeeling was never part of Bengal,” Sharma said while showing reporters a map of British India.
