  • Kolkata: Emergency repairs have begun after Bidhannagar City Police, state PWD and metro authorities conducted a joint inspection on Monday to assess the damage on VIP Road, which has suffered massive problems over the past week. TOI had been writing about the poor state of the express corridor, especially near the airport, due to relentless rain and subsequent waterlogging.

“We showed the PWD and metro officials five vulnerable spots on VIP Road — between airport gate 1 and Haldiram — that need immediate repairs. The officials have started pat-chwork repairs,” said an officer. TOI drove around the stretch on Monday and found Ultadanga-bound traffic moving at a snail’s pace along VIP Road and Jessore Road in the morning peak hours.
