  • Kolkata: SUCI (Communist) held a rally at Rani Rashmoni Road in the city on Monday to commemorate the 48th death anniversary of the party’s founding general secretary and Marxist thinker Shibdas Ghosh.

The main speaker at the event was SUCI (Communist) general secretary Provash Ghosh, who said the Lok Sabha elections once again demonstrated that the ruling bourgeois class managed to bring to office the party they desired, despite widespread public discontent.“Post-election price hikes and the ongoing crisis in the country, along with govt’s role, have shown that changing govt through elections does not solve the common people’s problems,” Ghosh added.

Supporting the student protests in Bangladesh, he said: “The movement is not controlled by Islamic militant organisations but Hindus and Muslims fighting together. The songs of Rabindranath, Nazrul and Dwijendralal have inspired this movement and pressure from this movement ultimately forced autocratic (Sheikh) Hasina to resign.”

Ghosh said RSS and BJP were creating communal divisions. “Trinamool is engaging in widespread corruption on one hand, and on the other, it is running donation schemes like Kanyashree, Lakshmir Bhandar and giving large sums to clubs to buy votes,” he alleged.
