• No theft at Bansdroni house but vandalism took place: Cops

  • Kolkata: A month after a 64-year-old woman from Pragati Park in Brahmapur under Bansdroni police station reported thefts at her residence twice, cops claimed that the first reported incident did not happen as the widow wanted respite from the lenders from whom her husband – who had died due to Covid – had borrowed money.

Cops said that she might have believed that she would be hounded each day if she could prove that the theft had made her bankrupt.

The second alleged instance of theft and vandalism, as claimed by the widow, did take place. However, police investigators insisted that even in the second case no theft was involved. Rather, it was an act of vandalism by the money lenders who were reportedly upset that she was not returning their money. Cops have now launched a manhunt to nab the vandals.

DC (Jadavpur) Bidisha Kalita said that it took cops over two weeks to establish the exact sequence of events.

“The probe found that the second incident was not of theft but of vandalising the house. This can be done only by someone who has enmity with the complainant. The complainant has been contacted several times but has refused to cooperate with the IO since then,” said Kalita.
