• Delayed by boycott, Rahool finally resumes his film shoot

  • Director Rahool Mukherjee on Tuesday resumed shooting of his upcoming movie ‘Production Number 171’ at a studio in south Kolkata after the shoot was boycotted by film technicians for days.

The film starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anirban Bhattacharya and Priyanka Sarkar is scheduled to be released ahead of Durga Puja. The shooting was slated to begin on July 27.  Even as actor Anirban Bhattacharya was present, Prosenjit was not part of Tuesday’s shoot.

The development comes after the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI) withdrew its decision to boycott Mukherjee over his hiring of Bangladeshi technicians. On July 23, the FCTWEI had banned Mukherjee from making films for three months on the charge of violating its rules for visiting a foreign country for shooting.

“On July 30, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee clearly mentioned that Rahool Mukherjee will continue as director and her word is final for us,” said a federation member.

Earlier, federation president Swarup Biswas had indicated a discussion with Mukherjee and later assured cooperation from the technicians. A formal statement from the guild confirmed that the boycott had been withdrawn after Banerjee’s intervention.

The standoff between directors and technicians led to a complete shutdown of shoots in Kolkata as other directors joined the protest in solidarity with Rahool Mukherjee.

Later, veteran director Goutam Ghose along with Prosenjit and Dev met the CM and state’s power minister Aroop Biswas at Nabanna, the state secretariat, to discuss the impasse. “If Didi hadn’t intervened, the issue could have gone on for a while. From now on, no one can be banned,” Dev said, thanking the CM for her timely intervention.
