Will not relent till all culprits are arrested, say agitating doctors

12 Kolkata: The agitation at RG Kar hospital entered the sixth day on Wednesday with the protesting doctors showing no signs of retreating any time soon. They iterated that they keep the heat up until all the perpetrators are arrested.
On Wednesday, more senior faculty members from different departments reached the protest site on the hospital campus to express their solidarity and boost the morale of their juniors.“Since we have to tend to patients, we cannot be sitting with you in the protest. But we understand your pain and we are with you and will continue to support your demand for a fair probe,” a senior faculty member told the protesters. The visit by an IMA team was also a shot in the arm for junior doctors in their agitation.
The director of medical education visited the RG Kar campus on Wednesday and held a closed-door meeting with the newly appointed principal. Sources said the meeting was on beefing up security and other amenities for junior doctors.
On Wednesday, the general body of doctors from all medical colleges in the state demanded the arrest of all the culprits within next 48 hours and an official declaration confirming the same from CBI. They also demanded a written apology and resignation of former RG Kar principal, MSVP, dean of students’ affairs, chest medicine HoD and the assistant superintendent on duty on the day of crime.
“We hope the CBI probe progresses fast. We appeal to patients to bear with us,” said an RG Kar doctor. “The agitation is not only hampering patient services but our studies are being affected. But there is no relenting till justice is ensured,” said an SSKM doctor .
Not only RG Kar, protests are underway across all govt hospitals in Bengal. “The decision to extend solidarity to our RG Kar colleagues is unanimous. It will be on till a collective decision is made,” said a doctor at Medical College.
