Kolkata: Following the plan to set up vehicular underpasses in four different locations on the main arterial road in New Town, the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) has further come up with plans to have a vehicular underpass and a pedestrian subway in both directions on New Town Street no. 3333 which heads towards Wipro and Infosys land after crossing Biswa Bangla gate.
Authorities plan to engage a firm which will find a suitable intersection within the stretch where the vehicular underpass and pedestrian subway could be built along with conducting a physical survey of the suitable intersection. The firm will also need to conduct a 24 hours traffic survey for seven consecutive days.
Hidco has proposed four locations on the major Arterial road or Biswa Bangla Sarani for vehicular underpasses. The locations are Westin intersection, the Seventh intersection at Shrachi More, Noapara intersection in between Chinar Park and City Centre II and the Chinar Park intersection. The new proposal is to have another vehicular underpass and a pedestrian subway on one key intersection on street no 3333.
Officials said, with an increase in the number of vehicles plying on the main thoroughfares, conflict between vehicular and pedestrian traffic is increasing.
