BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said she had not received the notice yet. “However, I feel if they (police) had shown such proactiveness in investigating the case, it would have been much better,” she said.
Dr Kunal Sarkar, who was accused of revealing the victim’s identity, denied the allegation. “I have never revealed the name or identity of the victim. I have questions pertaining to this case like everyone else. Maybe they don’t want people to share views on this case and it is an attempt to stop people from sharing their anguish.” Sarkar told a news channel.
Another doctor, Dr Subarna Goswami, was accused of spreading misinformation.
Police have reportedly been sending notices to several people for allegedly either revealing the identity of the victim or sharing “misinformation” in connection with the rape-murder case.
Kolkata police have initiated two separate cases in this connection. One to address the unlawful disclosure of the victim’s identity and the other to counter the dissemination of false information. Approximately 65 individuals have been issued notices, police said.
Meanwhile, 30 people have been arrested in connection with the late-night violence that took place at R G Kar hospital last week while doctors were holding protests.
